Pens sign college FA Brian Gibbons
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Brian Gibbson to a 2-year entry-level contract.
The two year deals, as opposed to three are more common for collegiate graduates because they are considered to be more physically developed compared to Canadian junior players.
Gibbons is of small stature, only a 5'8", 160 pound winger out of Boston College.
This season with Boston (H-East), Gibbons scored 51 points (18 goals, 33 assists) and 79 PIM's in 39 games.
He shouldn't be considered as high of a prospect as recently signed college star Paul Thompson.
It is doubtful that he will see any time in a WB/S Penguins uniform this late in the season, with the surplus of forwards ahead of him of the depth chart.
