Robert Bortuzzo blasted a wrist shot from the point on the power play, with five minutes left in regulation to cut the lead to one.
Two minutes later, Ben Street took a shot from the point, and it appeared to be deflected home by the recently demoted Ticket, Brett Sterling.
The sold-out Mohegan Sun Arena was alive and well, and the Pens were just beginning to put on a show for the fans in attendance.
Overtime wasn't enough, so the game had to be decided in a
Shootout.
