AHL Gameday 50 - Syracuse Crunch

NHL Affiliation:

TV/Radio:

The AHL Penguins are facing the most adversity they have, all season long up to this point.
Their leading scorer and go-to guy in every situation, Dustin Jeffrey is scoring on a nightly basis in the NHL.
Eric Tangradi is showing flashes of his skill set, while only getting 10 minutes of ice time up there.
It's injury city in Pittsburgh, which can only mean one thing -- call up city in Wilkes-Barre.
The main reason for the minor league affiliate to exist is to provide the "main" team with depth players and fill-ins, if necessary.
Believe me, they are more than necessary at this point.
When their top AHL guys go up, the top ECHL guys come up to fill in where they left off.
Joe Haddad has been called up from Wheeling, it was announced today.
Other players who had been playing bottom-6 roles with WB/S will be given more responsibility.
Chris Collins, Keven Veilleux, and Geoff Walker are all normally in the bottom half of the line-up, but it's their time to step up now.
Finally, times like these will show you just how important bringing in a true leader like captain Ryan Craig is to the team's make-up.
Bryan Lerg and Joey Mormina missed last night's game due to minor injuries.
Jesse Boulerice was scratched due to illness.
Number one goalie Brad Thiessen was scratched for precautionary reasons, and Patrick Killeen resumed his role as the back-up to John Curry.

Last night, Crunch goalie Jean-Philippe Levasseur stopped all 31 shots he faced as Syracuse defeated Adirondack with a 5-0 road win over the Phantoms.
The Crunch are not considered an elite AHL team by any means, but they have given the Pens trouble early this season - even with DJ and Tangradi in the line-up.
Dan Sexton (RW) and Timo Pielmeier (G) have been recalled to Anaheim (NHL).
