Training Camp: Day 2

About to be first-year pro, forward Paul Thompson continues to impress. His snap shot is at an above average level, as he roofed Fleury early on.

Richard Park had a nice second day as well, working really well in the corners. Bylsma slipped trying to defend him during one of the drills.

Alex Grant can skate at a pretty high level, as he was able to maintain pace with Malkin/Kennedy while moving backwards.

Simon Despres fell drying to defend Malkin. Despres should start looking for apartments in Wilkes-Barre yesterday.

Brandon DeFazio layed a huge hit on Despres, knocking him to the ice.

Malkin scored on every shot he took against ECHL All-Star goaltender Patrick Killeen.

Paul Martin moves the puck so well. Makes it look easy, too.

GROUP C practice notes

 

Letestu and Dupuis are starting to build some chemistry. Cooke played alongside those two. Possible third line.

Colin McDonald had some nice goals coming via his wrist shot. Guy led the AHL in goals last year with 42.

Bryan Lerg can stick-handle in a phone booth. With his small size and average strength, that's how he's going to have to get to the Show.

Engelland hasn't changed, and that's a good thing. Was moving the puck like a boss and was crunching people in front of the net.

Brad Thiessen had a great showing. Stopped nearly everything, including robbing Malkin and co.

Killeen allowed a bad rebound off a shot from DeFazio, and Zach Sill banged it in from the blue paint. 1-0 Black.

 

A lot of defense, and not a lot of offense in this one. Neither squad's lines could even

get much of a cycle going, until a mintue left in the third, when White throws out a Tangradi-Malkin-Williams line.

 

Malkin throws the puck to Williams in the corner, who saucers a pass to a cutting Tangradi in the slot.

The Big Dog buries it five-hole, tying the game with 30 seconds left. 1-1.

 

The game would go to a three-player shootout. Letestu scored for Black, as Steve Sullivan answers right back for White.

Malkin misses the net for White.

Dupuis comes down and toasts Killeen with his Washington Capitals move. Dupuis jumps into the bench in celebration.
