What we said in our recap:
We're at the point of the season where certain things start to define themselves. And a lot of "what if's" start getting thrown around.
Like what if James Neal just needed that shootout game winner to get going? What if games like the Detroit game are signs of things to come in the playoffs? And most important, what if Matt Cooke didn't get suspended for the rest of the season? Maybe something is supposed to happen because of it. Or maybe the Pens will get steamrolled in the first round. No clue. But you get the point. This is the whole premise of the "History Will Be Made" commercials.

What they're saying:
So tonight we will get to see how a ripped Hulder looks, if Brunnstrom can keep up, if Johnson is anything special and if Conner is as ruthless as people say he is. Plus it's our first taste of Commie22 in a Wings uni.
So no matter if this doesn't mean a thing, I'm excited, if only for the fact that one of the longest off-seasons ever is over.

Sure it means nothing, but it's hockey. After all of the injuries and the rumors and the pain of last season, and after the long, brutal summer, hockey's back. Despite everything, tonight the puck will drop at center ice and the game we all love will return. The Detroit Red Wings are in the house. They're a different team than we remember. There's no Chris Osgood and there's no Kris Draper, so we don't have to worry about ridiculous discussions about the Hockey Hall of Fame or handshakes any longer. But they're still the Detroit Red Wings and, even though it's preseason, it will be nice to beat them. As time has gone on we've started to have some respect for the Wings, but as soon as we play them we remember why we hate them. Tonight that hate will return, even if just briefly.
It's been a long time.
Hockey has a way of making you forget. Each season it all starts fresh and everyone gets another chance. Last season was one nightmare after another after another after another. The summer went from disappointing to tragic to almost unbearable so quickly. While we were still reeling from Jagr Watch, Talbot's departure and the constant Sidney Crosby rumors, the world of hockey and the real world intersected far too many times. Rather than thinking about players and trades and signings we were talking about brain injuries and death. Those shouldn't be topics of conversation when you're discussing hockey, but this summer they were.
But now the game is back. The pain of everything that's happened recently is still there, but hockey is still there too. And tonight the puck drops once again. Sure, it's just preseason, but it's still hockey. And it's a great day for hockey.

Do It.
Go Pens.
