There's lots of news coming out about Crosby today. One of the best stories is from Sportsnet:
On HOCKEY CENTRAL Saturday, Bob McCown of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reported that Crosby was concerned about the treatment he was receiving in Pittsburgh, so he saw a specialist in Utah where an MRI indicated that there was an abnormality with Crosby's C1 and C2 vertebrae.
The Prime Time Sports host said he learned of the news on Wednesday and said there were two unnamed sources close to the situation that he was in contact with.
Crosby went to the Utah doctor on the recommendation of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who is Crosby's friend.
Elliotte Friedman of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada has more:
Crosby agent Pat Brisson: Sid did suffer a concussion, but last week, the possibility of two fractured vertebrae (C1 and C2) was discovered. A third doctor is being consulted to determine the exact diagnosis. When I refer to "another concussion," it's from the Krejci hit.
In the video embedded in that Sportsnet story, McCowan says that Crosby passed a baseline test recently but still had symptoms. He also said Crosby "was concerned" with the treatment he was getting in Pittsburgh. After receiving some advice from Tom Brady (and specifically Gisele Bundchen) Crosby saw a specialist in Utah.
In Utah Crosby received a full body MRI and doctors found "an abnormality" in his C1 and C2 vertebrae. It's probable that this is what is causing Crosby's continued symptoms.
The long term recovery prospects are quite good and some are even saying Crosby could be back by the playoffs, but we'll have to wait and see on that. That sounds unlikely to us.
So it seems like Sidney Crosby isn't cleared to play and refusing to do so after all...
