GAME 1

Despite being outshot 28-14, Pittsburgh won in Philadelphia for the first time since a 3-0 victory at The Spectrum on February 13, 1994. In that game, current Penguins owner Mario Lemieux scored two goals. The Flyers began playing in the First Union Center in the 1996-97 season. Including three game in the 1997 Eastern Conference quarterfinals, the Flyers had won 16 straight home meetings with the Penguins.

"It's huge. Everybody knew we hadn't won in 16 games," Jagr said. "That's pretty tough. Everything has to end sometimes.

I'm glad it ended this year."

The Penguins had not won a playoff game in Philadelphia since April 21, 1989, when Jagr was 17 and playing in Czechoslovakia

"I feel great," Tugnutt said. "I just go out and have nothing to worry about. I throw the equipment on and go out and play. My mind is strictly on what we're doing here and I have nothing else to think about."

"It's getting frustrating," admitted Flyers left wing John LeClair. "We put up a lot of shots but not a lot of rebounds. They seem to find their guy in front of the net and maybe there's a bit of holding in there. But we have to make sure we fight through it. We have the guys that can do it. We have to find those rebounds."

What a game this was. The Flyers finally solved Tugnutt, and the mysterious Andy Delmore rose to fame.

"The game-winner was one of the happiest moments of my life," said Delmore, who does not appear in the Flyers regular-season media guide. "I was just trying to get up ice. Jones gave me a shovel pass and I was lucky to get it from my backhand to my forehand."

What a horrible moment in time this was. Keith Jones with the primary, too.

We are numb to this. It has been shown so many times that we don't even care. Still brutal, though.

The goal snapped an 87-minute, 14-second scoring drought in a game that began at 7:40 p.m. EDT and ended more than seven hours later with several fans asleep in their seats.

"I couldn't go for more than 25 seconds," Primeau said. "For that length of time, I felt great."

At 152:01, the game ranks third to a pair of six-overtime playoff contests in the 1930s.

"It's the most exciting event I've ever been involved with in hockey," said Flyers defenseman Chris Therien.

The game was 12:46 longer than Pittsburgh's 3-2 victory over Washington in the 1996 conference quarterfinals, the fourth-longest NHL game.

"If anything, it's a great feeling to win it," Flyers right wing Keith Jones said. "I lost in Washington against Pittsburgh in four overtimes. That loss demoralized us. It will be interesting to see what happens."

Rookie Brian Boucher stopped 57 shots for the Flyers, who began the day with news that star center Eric Lindros suffered another head injury in a scrimmage.

Philadelphia returns home for Game Five in the best-of-seven series on Sunday. The home team has lost each game.

"The sun's going to shine tomorrow," Penguins right wing Matthew Barnaby said. "You see your family, you want to get over it, get ready for Sunday."
 

Great note about Lindross in that. WTF. Keith Jones was everywhere.

The Pens had no chance in this game. Everyone knew it.

Andy Delmore became the first rookie defenseman to record a playoff hat trick in the post-expansion era as the Philadelphia Flyers followed up an epic five-overtime win with a 6-3 victory over the Penguins, who played most of the game without superstar Jaromir Jagr.

Andy Delmore scored three goals. Seriously. Double J was hurt too. Pens were all but finished. There is no worse feeling than knowing a series is over before it officially is.
