First off, apologies for not updating the sketchbook more. The past 6 weeks have been busy with a lot of work that wasn't really post worthy. There was also an issue with my computer that required a logic board replacement. Anyways...
So, A couple weeks ago, this pops up in my Twitter feed:
If you've never seen or heard of Archer, here's a sample:
Since I was already at my computer, I went ahead and sent over the following samples(which are all AI-based):
A few days later, I get a reply asking if I'd be interested in taking an illustration test. I accepted and they sent back a zip file with a bunch of style sheets, reference photos and instructions. For my test, I was asked to draw Archer in the following pose:
Here's my final test image:
On top of making it look good, I also had to set the file up on separate layers so the image would be ready to hand over to the animators. Basically, I had to set up a digital paper doll. Here's a shot of the wireframe overlay and the layers palette :
They gave me a week to do it... I sent it back 3 days later. I got a reply back April 25 with a job offer as an Illustrator with a start date of May 31, 2011. Holy Shitsnacks!!!
The only downside to this whole thing is the production company is in Atlanta and they don't offer relocation assistance. After doing some research into various moving services(truck rental, PODS, moving companies, ect...) it became clear that even if I sell everything I own, I still won't be anywhere close to having enough money to make it down there.
Now, pandering is the last thing I want to do but this opportunity is just too big to pass up. Instead of just asking for handouts, I set up a "Donation for Prints" page via Paypal. If you can spare a couple bucks, in exchange, i'll send you a print that will be specially designed for this fundraiser. If you don't have a Paypal account, there is an option to use your credit/debit card (highlighted in the screen grab below).
I haven't finalized the final print yet, but it will look something like this(i'll be including Letang, Orpik and Staal):
This is what the final print will look like:
If I have to walk to Atlanta and sleep under a bridge for this job, then that's what's gonna happen. I thought it might be a good idea to explore this route first.
Luckily, the job won't interfere with my tPB duties so i'll be able to continue doing all the cool stuff I get to do around here :)
I'd also like to take this time to thank everyone who stops by this blog on a regular basis and everyone who follows us on Twitter/Facebook/ect... It was an amazing season and I can't wait to do it all again in October with all the right parts where they should be... Lets Go Pens!!!
