The Boston fans went from booing Cooke to booing their own team.

The Penguins whipped out their balls, and they whipped them all over the Bruins, their fans, and their building.  Other than the X morning show with Tim Benz, it's hard to imagine a bigger, more disappointing three hours for people.

There appears to be a giant rat in the background. And that dude with his hand in his pocket?
[thanks to whoever sent this in]

If we were Bruins fans, we'd probably light ourselves on fire.
What a gutless, uninspired effort. Thank God Marc Savard isn't alive to see it.

But that doesn't surprise us.
No one even came to Savard's defense two weeks ago when it happened.

The next time anyone hears anything from the Bruins, it will be at the draft. For all their crowing, the Boston media looks even dumber than it normally does. Some guy actually found a way to make the Cooke/Savard hit about Crosby.

Want to know where the Boston media's minds are?
They gave Shawn Thoronto the number-3 star in this game...for fighting Cooke.

So now the Boston faithful can pull out their pics of Larry Bird and rub themselves down in fading memories.

As for the Pens, looks like we read our Mayan calendar wrong.  One day off.

A great recovery game for MAF. Only made 17 saves.
But if one goes in during the first ten minutes, it's a whole different game.

And the game brought us a new nickname:

This could be 6, but first tiebreaker is wins.
Pens have 42 wins.  Atlanta has 30 with 12 games left.

Tiebreakers are wins, then points earned head-to-head, then goal differential head-to-head.

Shawn Thornton comes out and challenges some guy named Cooke to a fight.
Kudos to Cooke for stepping up and fighting.
But he didn't go as far as removing his visor for Thornton.

Not sure why people are saying that the Bruins got revenge on Cooke.
He's the one that went out and took on the first challenge.

That Hines Ward fan was probably looking for a holding penalty.

After that things settled down, some Bruin went to the Candy aisle by mistake.

Mark Reechi tried to make some move, but he lost his AARP card and had to stop and go back and get it.

The Pens took a penalty a little bit later.

Too many men. Something liberating about searching "homo midgets" in google.

The Pens penalty kill comes up huge again, and gets some help from the posts as well.
Sometime after that, Cooke came out of the box, and his team applauded him.

That's all you need to know about that.

The Pens springboarded the momentum with a scoring chance.
Tenk makes a nice pass to TK.
TK pump-fakes Rask.

1-0.

TK's first goal in like 300 games.

No, we don't work for the Pens now.

Backteching with a perspective of the Consol Scoreboard:

second

Second period.
Time for the Bruins to atone for a so-so first period.
Wrong.

For some unreal period of time coming out of the gate, the Pens outshot the Bruins 12-0.
Would've been 13, but Dupuis somehow misses a one-timer in front.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_fw7iF68JR8k/S6NqZHwCqMI/AAAAAAAAxfI/8IZqVPYnlB4/8012524.jpg
But then Vladimir Ruzicka was able to float in a shot from the slot.

Teams traded PPs.
Pens PP looked okay, considering Malkin wasn't lurking.

Then just when it seemed the entire city of Boston would fall asleep...
the Giant Gonzalez takes on Mike Rupp.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_fw7iF68JR8k/S6NqbQZZZ-I/AAAAAAAAxfQ/9_N4uDgoNwU/i.jpg

But that started a parade to the box for the Bruins.
First one gets killed.

Then the second one gets k--

It seemed like a fitting end to the period.

5 minutes in, the Pens sent Bruins fans home, where Bill Belichick was waiting to tape them having sex.
3-0. An assist away from the homo hat trick.
What a shot.

Bruins really showed their disinterest in the third period.
Couldn't even outshoot the Pens.

Then Raymond Bourque took a penalty.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_fw7iF68JR8k/S6NqYfE5J0I/AAAAAAAAxfE/H7tQATEacsc/0102McDBourque.jpg
Whoops.  Wrong uniform.

JLeo cracks the door open a little bit when he goes to the box.
Bruins answer with nothing.  MAF just doing whatever it took.

The sign of an apathetic team?
Taking a too-many-men penalty late in a game.
Bruins killed it.  Too bad no one was left to watch it.

Game.

Morning news opened with "B's win the battle, lose the war" because they fought Cooke.

Really?

Thornton is twice the size of Cooke and Cooke isn't a fighter, so no shit Thornton wins that fight. Also, Thornton got a ten minute misconduct for the whole deal and it did nothing to get the crowd into the game for more than a minute, or wake up anyone on the Bruins' team.

It's like a grown man kicking his neighbor's rat terrier because it wouldn't stop barking and then doing jail time because of it.

Also, the dude's house burns down the same day.

#8 JYo 2010-03-19 09:11
Boston fans are more worried about spring training than they are the Bruins. PJ Stock was more popular than Joe Thornton when I lived there. For being a proud "Original Six" team, their fans are pretty terrible. Their arena sucks too. I hope going from the Igloo to the CEC doesn't suck the experience out of the game the same way going from the real Boston Garden to this hole did.

I guess trading Kessel sucked the heart out of the team. Claude "Fries" Julien will be out the door, I'm guessing. Shit team, shit heart, no effort...who knew what being down just one testicle could do to a team...or maybe it's that Mark Recchi brand of leadership. Skating Turds...pfffft

Bruce Boudreau's brother Claude said three or four of his guys "had the flu" but that wasn't an excuse or anything.

Best moment in the game was Crosby avoiding the knee on knee collision and proving to both Don Cherry and Marc Savard (god rest his soul) that if you skate with your god damned head up you might actually live to play another day.

The Pens get up for big games. An entire bottle of Cialis couldn't have gotten the Boston limp dicks up last night.

Go Pens.

Okay Bruins fans, suck it up. Your best player is out. I feel for ya, I really do. But where has revenge gotten teams like the Flyers? Nowhere. You know where you get your revenge: on the score board. That hurts more than a lame ass fight with Cooke.

Instead of bitching and whining and moaning, you light the lamp and win the game. And you keep winning until you're in the playoffs. But no, blame the woes of the world on Matt Cooke.

I guerin-tee that if the B's don't make the playoffs they blame Cooke rather than lack of depth stepping up to take the reigns and get the job done.

No caffeine = cranky as hell (and so damn tired of all the Cooke stuff... hopefully it goes away after this game for good)

Didn't get to see the game, was watching the Preds dismantle the Wild piece by piece (great to see BTW). Saw the fight, meh. Nice to see the Bruin fans got their "revenge" there. Guess they'll look back on this fondly in late April when they're touching themselves cause one of their beloved BoSox just did something, rather than going to a Bruin playoff game, cause the Bruins were so motivated to kick Cooke's ass, rather than trying to keep up in the playoff chase. Nice move Bruins, I'm sure you can tell your grandchildren about how the great Shawn Thornton defended the honor of Beantown by beating up on someone half his size. Whatev.

You can have your "revenge", we'll take the 2 points.

On a lighter note, there might be several thousand more people to jump on the "Phuck the Flyers" wagon. Here in Nashville on Tuesday, the Flyers, down 3-1, did what they do best, cheap shot like hell. I have literally NEVER heard the building seethe with hatred for another team like I did that night. And I've been to many a Red Wing game in that building. Of course, many blame the refs for not calling anything, but if the Flyers didn't pull the cheap shit, then the refs would have had nothing to call. It was a beautiful night for me personally, seeing 17k + ready to kill these guys. And this is a team that Preds fans have a bit of a soft side for, cause half our team plays there now. Obviously doesn't make a difference.

All in all, it was nice to see that the Bruins were able to get that revenge they so badly wanted. But remember, the Canucks wanted revenge on Steve Moore cause they believed he put a cheap hit on Naslund, and we all know where THAT ended up!

Just sayin...

I'm glad Cooke got this out of the way, and held his own against Thornton. And very glad that this crap is finally over. I especially liked Cooke's tripping penalty - It was like a giant Fuck You to the Bruins, their fans, Don Cherry, and all the other tools who've been talking shit on him for almost the past 2 weeks. It made a statement.

"Yeah, that's right. Fuck You. Keep talking shit. I just fought the biggest goon you could throw at me, and now I'm gonna trip the hell out of your joke player. I'm still here, and I'm still gonna keep playing the way I play. FUCK. YOU."

The Pens played a good game, and I'm glad no one was injured as "payback." Bonus that Jersey only got one point...I find it really pathetic (for them) that as things stand now, they've beaten the Pens six times in regulation and will at most be one point ahead of them after the game-in-hand.

Anyway, I think someone with Photoshop ability (meaning, not me) should put Crosby's face/other stuff on a Cap'n Crunch Berries cereal box so I can use it as my avatar. I found a pic but don't want to post it and break C-blog.

Hey, as someone who owns 3 of them (the proceeds go to the Preds Foundation), I must respectfully disagree with your characterizatio n of the whistles as "fucking stupid." Now, "fucking annoying," I could agree with. :)

I may own 3, but I don't use them. (Although I may bring 'em back out for the playoffs.)

Was at the game Tuesday against the Flyers like Predsboy. The officiating was a joke. At least 2 blatant no-calls which were obvious even to those like myself in the 300-level seats. The Preds didn't get a single power play the whole game, which defies all sorts of logic given who they were playing.

Okay, enough Predsblog...onto my first love, the Pens.

What a game last night. So glad MAF got the shutout. Actually found myself giggling at the end of the game over the large levels of FAIL exhibited by the Bruins after all the revenge/retribution pre-game trash talk.

No two people have ever had more fun with their job more than Errey and Steiggy. Are they as good as Mike Lange? No, but I've never heard Lange say something like "They [the Leafs] stunk then and they stink now" or make a tasteless joke about Hobey Baker. Since I'm not in Pittsburgh and don't have Center Ice, I usually listen to Lange on the internet, which is great, but I love hearing Steiggy and Errey when I get the chance.

@Rage--pretty sure it wasn't the "genteel Pittsburgh public" that disapproved of Lange swilling vodka and falling off his chair, but rather the db's at FSN. Mike Lange stone drunk in the gutter would be better than Steigy on his best day, but then again, so would anyone FSN pulled out of a bar on the South Side. Steigy is simply not worthy of being the announcer for a midget team, let alone the Stanley Cup Champions.

Bitch all you want about Steiggy and Bob, but I like them. Steiggy has been reporting on the Pens for a long time, and it's not his fault Mike Lange was pushed out by the last FSN management. Steiggy does his job well, he's amusing. Lange has said he likes being on radio. In comparison to people like Joe Benninati, Mishkin, Edzo, Edwards, and others, you should count your blessings that we have someone like Steiggy.

Steiggy is worth every penny that FSN is paying him because even though he is a noted Pens fan, he can see through the rose-colored glasses when he sees them do stupid things on the ice.

Maybe I'm alone on this, frankly I don't care (insert ex-HCMT joke.), but he is going to be around for a while so calm down and enjoy the game ...

this - living out of PA, I feel like I'm back in the Burgh when I get to hear their voices (even though they come up with some wild shit)

Anybody besides me think that Steigy is the biggest joke in the history of announcing? Sidney Crosberry? Seriously? I am sure he has a few fans on here, but I really mourn the loss of Mike Lange.

when i listen to steigy i often think he's drunk. i'd have more respect for him if he was - kinda like harry carey at wrigley field or bob euker in MAJOR LEAGUE.

Lange, Steiggy and the Bibster are all great play-by-play men...

Listening to the Kings and Ducks TV/Radio broadcasts make me really appreciate all THREE of them.

The Kings have some decent TV announcers, but the Ducks are just redundant, remember how he thought 'Seabrook' was selling the Wizniewski hit....

Be glad we don't have ANA or WAS's color commentary men.

kpa42 and I were talking about Poni, and he mentioned that he looked like Cary Elwes. Totally does.

loved the fact that you guys picked up on the likeness. during the interview yester day i really noticed it. and also...after hearing steigy mess up crosby's name multiple times, i busted out the crosberries taste like crosberries line and also glad you went there too. he also called hime crasby shortly before that. crasby+crosberr y....think maybe he was drinking cranberry vodka in the booth!!

Don't forget the Hurricanes come before Detriot. I know no one hates the Hurricanes but that means we play the four teams we beat in the playoffs last year, all in a row.
