"It's one of those 4 point swingers. While the offense was certainly firing on all cylinders the other night, the defense had noticable lags. Pittsburgh is a much more potent team offensively than the Rangers and the Devils will need to concentrate and those defensive lags tonight. The Penguins are 4-0-1 since returning from the Olympic Break so to say that this is a hot team would pretty much be spot on."
A huge divisional game for the Pens.
The Devils sit four points behind the Penguins, but they have played two fewer games.
The Pens have played Snooki to the Devils' angry gym teacher in a bar this entire season.
New Jersey is 4-0 against Pittsburgh this year.
The Devils have outscored the Penguins 14-2.
The last two games have been shutouts for Brodeur.
This is the first time the Penguins will play against the Devils with Kovachoo in the New Jersey line-up.
He has three goals and five assists in ten games with the Devils.
It's also Martin Skoula's first game against the Pens since he was traded:
"I was part of the organization for a couple months and I just want to show them that they made a mistake trading me."

Skoula needs to realize that he's a cheap pickup for a team who just blew their entire salary cap on Kovaljoke. We're talking about a guy who once was minus-2 on one shift. (I think)
That said, I really like our defensive core now. When your seventh defenceman is Jay Mckee, you're in good shape. People point to the number of goals and chances we give up, but I don't pin that on the D. It's just the style of play Bylsma employs with the team. The opponent is going to get odd-man rushes and score goals, but we are going to score more.
I'm not trying to hate on BJ, but it was obvious he was not ready to play that game yesterday. Fleury in net, and I bet we had 2 points in regulation. I have a feeling Flower will be ready tonight.
Oh man I hope we beat the Devils tonight. If we lose this game I may kill myself, for only the fact that I sat through another boring-ass New Jersey game. Last night's game was exciting and entertaining. This game will be boring as hell, with the neutral zone trap in full effect.

Devils had a lot more offensive zone time than I expected to see. Thus far, it hasn't been the boring 1-3-1 'trap' bore-fest I expected. I suppose that's due to the Crosby goal, which came on a 2-on-1. Which defenceman was caught? Could it have been.... Skoula? It'd be funny as shit if it was.

can't really blame MAF for that 3rd goal, although I was DEFINITELY ready to, since he got interfered with by Zajac.
that 2nd goal was definitely sieveblog on MAF's part, kicks out the soff rebound himself to Green(e?) and then watches Green(e?) wind the fuck up and blast it past him with no screen or deflection.
ehhhhh, MAF still needs SOME scoring support, so one can't fault him completely.

That said, I counted about 4 different things various Penguins could have done to prevent that second goal. If they could have stopped that then NJ wouldn't have been able to go into boring-as-shit trap mode.

Still have a good chance to win the division if they can win next week.

I thought the Pens played a very good game, despite what some of you may think. If not for the strange 'charging' 5-minute major, and having to kill off penalties for half of the second period, they couldn't get to their game. They did in the third, saw a lot of good plays, but UncleDaddy was just too good. I think he must step up his game when he plays the Pens, because he never, NEVER gives up a soft goal against us. Not this year anyway. I can't imagine a season sweep, but I guess we'll find out in a few days.

Regarding the Adams charge:
On the replay, a Devil played the puck w/a high stick. The official signaled high stick, when Skoula touches the puck, They blow the play dead. Adams hits Skoula. They were probably going to call a 2min charge, but, since Skoula got cut, They gave Adams a major, based on the following, from the NHL rule book.
43.3 Major Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the degree of violence of the check, to a player or goalkeeper guilty of charging an opponent (see 43.5).
43.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.
If Adams didn't hit Skoula after the whistle, They may not have called a penalty at all (IMHO).
