Remember all those times the Pens would play some team and some jobber no-name stain would score two crippling goals?

Remember that look on your face?

Did it look like this:

Chris Conner was hotter than hell down on the farm.
And with the Road Dog Billy Guerin out, Shero played a hunch.
And, as usual, Shero wins.

All of a sudden, the Pens have won 5 out of 7 and 33 out of 54.
People are beating off about the Pens being 2 points behind the Devils now.
Too bad the Devils have only played 50 games to the Pens' 54.

The Olympic break is creeping up, too.  8 games left.  And with the trade deadline blasting GMs in the face coming away from Vancouver, odds are Ray Shero is working the phones as we speak.

Versus had to squeeze some tuff MMA fighters in the game intro.
'Cause when we see Crosby, Malkin, and Gaborik, we immediately draw comparisons to white-trash karate.

look out

More action before the puck even drops,
as Verizon shows a commercial of Ovechkin and Richards at an airport.

Solid.

Verizon just showed Versus how to do advertising. On their own network.
No sticking needles in bobbleheads and people pretending to be from Boston.

19 minutes and 55 seconds of the first period needed a dose of Flomax.
Absolutely nothing going on.

The 5 exciting seconds entailed Crosby leading an innocent 3-on-2 into the zone.
Chris Conner gets in scoring position. Goal. 1-0.

That's why Chris Bourque sucks.

Job job job. Godard gets hurt.
Rangers looked atrocious.

The Pens had a powerplay at the end of the first.
They looked primed, but ballsac.

Fleury looked sharp in the action he saw.

As Pens fans, we are all grateful GhostWalker40 is on our side.

This comes from reader Anthony, who was at the taping for this commercial:

Second verse, same as the first.
Snore.

Finally, after like 8 years of waiting, there was actually a STAAL-vs-STAAL moment.
Jordan and Marc push each other around.  They almost made out.

The Rangers get some bullshit powerplay when Malkin heads to the box to read some fanmail.
Malkin comes out of the box, and Sid sets him up for a chance.
But it was such a hurried sequence.
Malkin had no room once he got to Stunnedqvist.

I Robot scores for the Rangers. 1-1.

BULLLLLLLL'S

EYYYYYYYYEEEEE

Same place where Chris Conner scored in the first.

MAF makes a glove save that steals Brandon Dubinsky's identity.

Nasty

Suck it.

Chris Conner scored this goal down in Wilkes-Barre.
Unnecessary caption.

Want to give Fleury the nod for being stellar in his first game back from injury?  No problem.

But the gamepuck for this one goes to the PK unit at the start of third period.
Heroic shorthanded performance that would make Rick Allen proud any day.

Another bullshit Rangers goal.
Yeah, act like you did something involving talent.  2-1.

Malkin gives Lundqvist a Foley catheter.  2-2.

Conner 60 seconds later.  3-2.

Rangers vomit on themselves.  Dupes adds the empty net.

GAME.

Wish the third period could've been built up more somehow.

Bizarre game.

Apple tablet.

What a week. First I get to watch the Pens beat the Flyers while watching with Flyer fans (who for some reason all think Sid is a baby. . . go fig) and last night I got to watch this disaster with NY fans. Sometimes life is just too sweet for words. Woooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooo o!

I was at the game on Saturday when Connor scored that goal...the scary part of that is, it was only his 7th of the season. Sucks that WB/S lost on lucky bounces though.

Chris Bourque who? I don't know anybody by that name.

How in the world did that second Rags goal get in there? MAF showed some rust on that one. See, fleuryous...a winning MAF can be jobbed.

Good game by the Pens. The defense seems to be getting back to normal and not pulling the best Spud impression it can. MAF played a solid game coming back from injury - I was nervous he'd have an off night with that broken finger. The PP is warming up and starting to score at crucial points now.

Great game for Conner. Too bad it was only a one game stink this time: penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=515008

PK was stellar again last night, and the PP is starting to resemble what its supposed to be: a powerplay!

I know i'll prob get heckled for this but Bennanati doesn't really grind my gears. A little annoying at times but he doesn't set my pants on fire. Oh well 2 well deserved points = happy Tuesday.

Poor Chris Conner, he's already been reassigned. Have a 2 goal game in the NHL, find yourself back in the AHL 12 hours later.

If the Caps aren't playing, you can probably be mostly heckle-free at Bailey's in Ballston Mall. They have the Center Ice package and a bunch of screens and have had no problem putting Pens games on for me on at least one screen in the past. The Pour House also shows Pens games sometimes.

Despite the insistence of Ted, Washington still isn't a big hockey town so it is hard to find too many places that will play hockey games other than the Caps.

To Anthony's commercial email:

I worked on the Pens Verizon commercial posted above. The shoot you were at was for plate shots, meaning your group was duplicated over and over to make the stadium look full. There was another shoot on December 22, this time featuring Crosby, Malkin, Gonch, and Talbot, as well as another 300 extras in Pens gear. The rest of the Pens and the Blues were just local players (like you said, mostly from Pitt), which is why their faces were in shadows.

As part of the crew, I can't think of who any "dicks" were, but I'm glad we at least had some real Pens fans like you there to make it realistic. December 22 was pretty good because filming took place right after the Pens practice, so all of the players were there. Sorry you got the raw end of the deal with that, but it was still a pretty cool thing to be a part of.

Speaking of Ted being delusional, apparently he had a blog post about how there were tons of Caps fans at the Igloo last week. Really? Because I noticed *maybe* 100-ish people wearing red and I'd say a good 1/3 or more of those were people in Sid Team Canada jerseys, which seem to be multiplying like gremlins at the Igloo (they're fantastical, btw, but not a great choice when we're playing an opponent that wears red).

The bride is always beautiful in her dress.

You will get kicked in the stones if your girl hears you jobbing any woman in her wedding dress. If the bride is fat, ugly, or a caps fan, or a combination of any of those, it is time to invoke your right to remain silent.

Let me clue you in on something as well. My wife of 13 years, who is extremely attractive, would have worse & funnier things to say about that picture than I just did.

False. The list of those obligated to think the Bride is beautiful in her wedding dress are as follows:

Groom
Father of the Bride
Wedding Party

Outside of that... job away. I'm pretty confident that if I made fun of some broad's shitty dress on the internet, that my wife would not be offended or pissed. There's a good chance she'd agree. Would I job her sister's dress? Nope... but random internet pics aren't immune to jobbing.

The idea that some random Caps broad being in a wedding dress makes her special is preposterous.

Ouch. Is it REALLY mean if it's true, though?

I think the backstory was that the pasty chub fans met on the official Caps message board or some such.

I get these "Google translations" at work all the time, but rarely are there any gems like that one.

Anyone catch the Denis Lemieux reference after Malkin's goal? I think it was Joe Micheletti when they got the close-up of Lundqvist's face: "he feel shame."

Does anyone doubt that the Wings would win that match up? Even if they decided to play baseball instead of hockey?

Hey, I don't think every bride looks beautiful in her dress. I'm just saying, if somebody would have made fun of me in the dress I wore for my now-defunct marriage I'd have punched their fucking teeth down their throat and they'd have deserved it. Some things are just worth letting go. But that's JMO and I'm nobody's keeper, so again, whatever.

I'm trying to figure out when this transitioned from the Pensblog to defend a Capsfan blog. JFC. Pretty sure nothing pertaining to Caps and Flyer fans was off limits here. Didn't we all lambaste a Caps fan's mole for a week last spring?

Different topic - did Tortarella have another uncomfortable meltdown presser after the game? I couldn't tune in for post-game. He should just conduct his post-game interviews using an angry sock puppet.

Yes. I had a spelling error. Conner like the player and not, Connor like the character. Had to erase the nameplate off the uniform. Sorry, for the multiple posts. I thought I deleted the old posts. It was my first attempt at PS and I was pissed I messed up my first addition to the board. "Shouldn't play with things you don't know a lot about." Thanks, B

I'm not sure how stating that people who make fun of a bride in her dress are bordering on asshole territory is defending a Caps fan. Like I said, I really don't care what anyone else does. I was just giving my opinion. It's obviously been noted, as have differing opinions, so we can all move on.

Husky brides who wear poofee (yes that is how i spell it)wedding dresses will look like a wide load rig. When she added the jersey to that poofiness it made it worse.
She should have worn an A line or empire waistline dress if she knew she wanted to wear a hockey jersey.

So let me get this right...if you're 5'8", a callup from the AHL, and you respond to the name of Chris, it is possible to score in the NHL?

I think all pens fans all pay a little more attention to the caps these days as the caps have one of the best teams/players in the league. They can be a dangerous team (usually the regular season only.)In addition all the hype surrounds the matchup adds a certain amount of attention that wasn't there before. And finally the caps organization seems to be forcing their new found "greatness" instead of letting it build like the pens did.

Sorry dude, that wasn't really directed at you bro. You know I respect the hell out of your posts and I had a good time reading that message board over at that site. I found the Stanley Cup cake picture profound as to the state of their fan base, Pathetic. I just can't understand why the good people of cblog feel the need to bring up the Caps every damn day. I enjoy a good Caps jobbing as much as the next guy but we just had a game against the Rags and instead of seeing posts about how we kicked their ass's last night in the third period most of the comments are directed at the Caps and their dumb fuck owner. I just think it's weird how the Caps have become such a mainstay here. Maybe I'm just set in my ways but I just don't think about that team nearly as much as everyone else. I guess the Crosby/Ovie thing is what elevated this subject? But until that team beats ours in the playoffs I just refuse to acknowledge them as a rival and until they win the Cup (which I hope never happens)I refuse to give them that much time. Hell, I live in Hershey Bear country and putting up with their fans is bad enough but at least they have a reason to run their mouths and get my attention. The Caps just haven't earned that right yet.

Holy schizoblog.

Let me summarize what I think I just read:

- Caps suck.
- Caps fans suck more because they are clueless from the top down.
- Verizon sucks to work for but hey at least they get advertising the game of hockey right (take note Bettman)
- Charlie is hoping the Apple Tablet has an expansion port for his buttplug (like everyone else quick to support a COMPANY THAT ONLY WANTS YOUR MONEY)
- Chris Conner will now be mentioned as the "trade X for Y so we can call up Conner who is clearly better"

I have no fucking idea why there is a pic of the Sabres and Canucks up there. Can someone enlighten me?

PS: The arethepensgoing tobeok.com website prediction algorithm is now 1-1. Woot.
