Why We Wake Up In The Morning

Thursday in the city of Pittsburgh was surreal.  People who hadn't looked outside since they got home from work Wednesday night were stunned when they walked out of their door this morning.

We think we saw Dennis Quaid near the Kirwan Heights exit on 79.

While seeing Dennis Quaid would be awesome, we saw something better.

Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Washington Capitals, has done as much for hockey blogging as an NHL owner can do.
And for that, we tip our hat to the man.

But he is joke city.
Here's a screenshot we grabbed today from his blog, TED'S TAKE.

Yeah, we are a passionate fan base.  You see it when we invade your arena two times per season.
But we like that he spells our blog right.  Pensblog is one word.

The "more sophisitcated" blog he refers to is JAPER'S RINK, easily our favorite Caps blog.
No harm done there.  Besides, we bet the Penguins franchise itself that JAPER'S RINK does better research than Mike Wise and/or his editor at the Washington Post. LINK.

We're not here to defend what we do around here.
Having photoshop expos depicting Ovechkin assassinating Abraham Lincoln is what the internet was made for.

All we'll say to Ted is, you're welcome for us trying to rally every genuine NHL fan to get Ovechkin into the All-Star Game.  Talk about taking the high road.  It doesn't get higher than that between two rivaling fanbases.  We were at a loss when we realized that Caps fans simply didn't care when we launched the Ovechkin Counter-Offensive.  LINK TO US TAKING THE HIGH ROAD.

But surely we thought the owner of the team itself would care.  Wrong.
How hard is it to get on the horn in your own barn and tell every fan in attendance to text "ovechkin" 10 times to a 5-digit number?

And, oh, how we prayed to find a clause in Ovechkin's contract stating he gets a bonus if he starts in an All-Star Game.  Leonsis would have been done for.  But all we found was the following quote, as if the WP is credible in our eyes anymore:

Here is a rundown of Ovechkin's bonuses:
He gets $984,200 in base salary and $2,850,000 in bonuses from the team. From the league, he'll earn $250,000 if he wins the Hart Trophy; $250,000 for winning the Richard Trophy; $150,000 for finishing first in points; $150,000 for finishing first in goals; $100,000 for being selected as a first team all-star; $100,000 for finishing first in points per game. If he wins the Hart, he'll earn a total of $4,834,200.

Oh, so close.

Ted, we would still like a Thank You from you for trying to get your boy into the All-Star Game.
We've tried the high road with Caps fans.   It didn't work.

Ovechkin is a joke.
And for casual readers of this blog, this is the last time we bring up the Ovechkin ASG stuff.
We know when it gets tired.

Probably the most informative article of this Ovechkin/Malkin/Crosby/Semin feud came from the WASHINGTON POST today.
It's only fitting that it was a guest blogger who brought the goods.
If you do anything today, read that.
Thanks to everyone who sent the link in.

Bob Errey might dress for the Pens for Friday night's game against the Ducks.
No one knows what's going on.

Bing's day-to-day, like everyone else in the world.
Scoods got some stitches.
No links.  Just trust us.

CALL TO ARMS IF YOU RECORD PENS GAMES

Pensblog, you didn’t happen to record the FSN broadcast of the Caps game, did you?  I would need the live broadcast and not the 11PM replay.  What I want was cut out of that.

Errey was talking about Sid and the way he ties his skates…I was looking to get to a transcript of that for Paul Lukas over at Uniwatch.  It was towards the end of the first period I believe.

We hope someone can help this guy out.
The transcript is all he needs.  A YouTube wouldn't hurt, though.
Thanks to everyone for trying, if you do.

The website is UNI WATCH.
Be careful going there.  You will be there for hours on end checking stuff out.
