7:30 PM

Mellon Arena

Listen to the game at [WXDX]

If you have any questions for Mike Lange, Phil Bourque or Bob Grove join the Penguins Radio Network Facebook page.
You can submit questions via the discussion tab for the Crash the Net segments or Penguins Hotline after the game.

Sidney Crosby is back in the lineup and will play tonight.
Goligoski and Kunitz are skating as well.

Today was the first time in a long while that every Penguins regular took the ice for practice.

But don't talk to the Carolina Hurricanes about injuries.

Earlier in the season Eric Staal missed significant time.
Cam Ward hasn't played since early November.
And the injuries show in Carolina's record.
The Hurricanes, who made it to the Eastern Conference Final against the Penguins last year, are 6-17-5 this season.
They have fewer points than any other team in the league.

But that's no reason to go easy on them.

The Penguins defeated the Hurricanes in a shootout back in October.
You may also remember a little playoff series they played against one another.

The Team USA roster should be set by mid-December.

Seven NHL referees and six NHL linesmen have been selected to referee the Olympic hockey games.
Somehow Bill McCreary is one of them.

Darren McCarty has retired.

A game against the Hurricanes is an excuse to post this:

It's also an excuse to get drunk.

Do it.

Go Pens.

uh, why is Mckee in the box? You can't be called for hooking after play has stopped, thus the penalty had to have happened before the goal was scored, thus making it a delayed penalty until the goal was scored thus nullifying the delayed penalty as scoring a goal does during any such situation.

So what's up here?

Mike Lange FTW.

And yea, to talk about the quiet atmosphere at Mellon--I don't know what the deal is. It never used to be that way. Last year when I went to several games (including game 1 of the EC finals) there were several points when the fans were just sitting on their hands during points of the game when it should've been loud as fuck. Oh well..

Anyways, looks like Legace is trying to win the Vezina in one game...Predictable.

either the player serves a double minor or another player serves his second penalty. those seem like the most plausible scenarios

I do believe a minor is called for each infraction (assuming the refs see both penalties) as soon as the offending player's team touches the puck.

[EDIT] I remember watching a game and seeing a player (I want to say Brendan Shanahan) get a triple minor in a very similar situation about 7-8 years ago. He had committed a trip and on the delayed call he committed a high-sticking double minor. All 3 minors were called.

In all honesty, I don't understand why any NHL team (even the Flyers with their typical thuggish ways) would dress Daniel Carcillo. He belongs on a line between Ogie Oglethorpe and Tim McCracken on the Syracuse Bulldogs. It isn't that Carcillo lacks discipline - he just doesn't even care enough to try to be disciplined. He's a loose cannon who has cost his teams multiple games in the past with his stupid crap and on-ice antics.

[EDIT] And yes, I am well aware that Carcillo was in WBS until Ray Shero sent him out to Phoenix as part of the Georges Laraque trade. Being part of that trade to bring the Pens a true heavyweight is by far the best thing Carcillo has ever done for any NHL squad.

I agree. After Laraque received his suspension last weekish, someone on ESPN wrote an article asking if he still belonged in the NHL. I'd say the argument for Laraque (fighter who's hockey skill can be compared to a solid AA Wheeling Nailer) can be applied to lots of other people, including Carcillo and maybe even guys like Godard (although he's stepping out of his thug role into more of a checking role).

#166 PensFan2166 2009-12-07 22:21
@goochjp24 - There are a few "goons" around the NHL who are capable of playing the game when given the opportunity. I think recent events show that Eric Godard is one of those players. No, he won't set the ice aflame with his speed or bring visions of Guy Lafleur with his skills, but he can contribute and not hurt the team by being on the ice. I also think Georges Laraque can be another contributor like that as well - but his game (what there is of it) does seem to be slipping. Daniel Carcillo has nothing but fists, a barely passable ability to get around on skates, and a mustache that looks like Dustin Diamond gave him a Dirty Sanchez.

#167 Knublesinhisoffice22 2009-12-07 22:23
i think John was a great coach, Homer is the problem, i feel like we're mocking the pens of the 90s and last season all at once, wild spending causing us to constantly be f***ed by the cap, except were not in debt to anyone, and now we're bringing in a new coach similar to the pens last season... i'd make a better GM then Homer

#168 goochjp24 2009-12-07 22:24
@pensfan2166 - I completely agree with you (I just really wasn't clear in my point). The main argument of the article was how out of position Laraque was when he made the hit. Thus, according to the genius hockey experts at ESPN, brought about an attack on the "goons"

Ah, okay. Well I would say that the only reason Laraque was so out of position on that hit was because he intended to make that hit - no matter how out of the play it made him. But ESPN knows as much about hockey as I know about bird law, so I don't lend much credence to their thoughts and ramblings.
