Players On Both Sides: Stars and Penguins

Written by TPB Staff

Taking a quick look at every player who has suited up for both the Pens and Dallas Stars since their move to Dallas. Didn't use anything but our memory for this list while looking at Dallas' all-time roster.  We just became Pens fans last week. Hopefully didn't miss any.   First up:

STU BARNES
STTTTTUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.  Even though he did a bunch for the Pens (had 17G-30G-20G) during his three-year stay in the late '90s, first thing when we think of him is this goal in Game 5 of the Pens 2001 series against the Sabres.  What a devastating moment this was at the time.  Still get that sinking feeling watching it.  Gary Thorne = chills.

MATTHEW BARNABY
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Stunned Pic Of The Night 11.10

Written by TPB Staff

The art of the stunned pic is something we take very seriously. We're hoping to get a stunned pic up every night. It doesn't have to be Penguins related. If you are at a game and take a stunned pic email us This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

First stunned pic of the night award goes to Winnipeg head coach Claude Noel:

pic by way of dvr. Noel was pissed because Florida scored some goal. He was also pissed due to his suit.

This is an angry stunned pic, very common

Dupes Mic'd Up

Written by TPB Staff

Dupes was mic'd in practice:

Some highlights:

- Geno asked him for a microwave

- Pens played some game where the loser had to wear an Hawaiian shirt all week.

- Solid gray practice shirts.

Pens haven't played in 100 years.

Tyler Kennedy Close To Returning, Sidney Crosby Not Quite

Written by Rick

The Pittsburgh Penguins are close to getting a forward back from a concussion, but it's not the one everyone has been speculating about.  Tyler Kennedy will be a game-time decision tomorrow. Kennedy hasn't played since October 15 due to a concussion.

Dan Bylsma also noted that there is still no timetable for Sidney Crosby's return and that he will not play in the next two games.

Video: WB/S 4 vs. Norfolk 2

The Baby Pens continued their great road play, improving to 7-0 on away games:

Breaking the 1-3-1

Written by TPB Staff

Before PSU students took to the streets, all the talk in the sports world last night was Philadelphia's answer to Tampa Bay's 1-3-1. This happened right off the opening face-off:

The refs apparently whistled the play dead because the puck was not moving, and they probably told the Flyers this, so when the Flyers did it again later in the period, Pronger consciously kept the puck moving, as you'll see in the YouTube below. Can't find anything in the NHL rule book about a play being whistled dead due to the puck not being moved.  Then again, we didn't really look that hard.

But breaking the 1-3-1 is pretty easy, as we are about to exhibit.  It just takes some studying-up beforehand.  Read more...

The Guy Who Announced The PSU Firings Has Ties To The Pens

Written by TPB Staff

Strange Penguins tie-in to the bizarre shit going on at PSU. John Surma the guy that announced the the firings at PSU, is an investor in the Penguins.

Per the PG:

For years, U.S. Steel Chairman and CEO John P. Surma has played defenseman in a local recreational hockey league. Now he's taking a seat on the Penguins bench -- as a part owner.

Surma, a Penguins season ticket holder and longtime fan, has acquired a $2 million stake in the team, according to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Penguins CEO David Morehouse confirmed Wednesday that Surma had invested money in the franchise.

"We think he's the perfect fit. We think it's great to have another local investor. He's a pillar in the Pittsburgh community and a longtime supporter and a pretty good defenseman," he said.

No idea what is even going on anymore.

Go Pens.

Thanks to DN for the tip.
