Basically No One Playing Tonight for the Penguins

Posted by Rick on .

It's a good thing the Penguins picked up all of those players around the deadline without sending any roster players away.

From Josh Yohe:

That means Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Martin, Letang, Bennett and Fleury will all be out. According to the Pens' website, the following players took part in an optional morning skate:

Morrow, Jokinen, MacIntyre, Jeffrey, Dupuis, Adams, Glass, Cooke, Sutter, Kennedy, Orpik, Bortuzzo, Eaton, Engelland, Despres, Niskanen, Vokoun and Hartzell.

Should the Pens even dress Matt Cooke tonight?

Posted by TPB Staff on .

Reasonable question: If you are the Penguins, do you dress Matt Cooke in Ottawa tonight? Chances are nothing will happen Monday night when the Pens and Sens square off. However, the Senators, their owner and their bizarre fan base seem intent on starting something. Honestly, we wouldn't be surprised if the Senators open the game by showing the results of Eugene Melynk's "investigation" then having Matt Cooke arrested on bench and sentenced to 10 years in a Canadian prison.

Also, you have to wonder if the Senators -- looking at Chris Neil here -- are going to target one of the Penguins' star players? The Pens are in a bit of a hard place with this. On one hand, it would be nice to get at least get Malkin or Martin some playing time. But the Senators organization is completely unstable and is seeking retribution against the Pens for the Karlsson injury.

Potential Storylines Heading into the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Posted by Rick on .

The playoffs are almost here and we're all checking out potential playoff match-ups. The Penguins have secured the top seed in the East, so they'll meet the 8th seed in round one.

If you look at the current standings, that means the Pens will likely face off against the New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators or possibly the New York Islanders in the first round.

So here are the storylines that you can expect the media to drive into the ground for each of those match-ups.

Group of Senators fans organizing Matt Cooke Hate Fest

Posted by TPB Staff on .

This immediately reminds us of that episode back in the 2009 playoffs when cops were called to some kid's house because he said he was gonna kill Ovechkin or something on a message board.

Some site called Red Scarf Union is organizing a Matt Cooke Hate Fest. It actually sounds pretty serious. Wouldn't be surprised to see the local police notified.

The SenShot website is not a fan of the Hate Fest.

RECAP: Iginla Strong. PENS WIN.

Posted by TPB Staff on .

The road to the Stanley Cup goes through Fifth Avenue. Following a tumultuous week, The Pens and Bruins stood together with the citizens of Boston and 'Merica before and after the game.

But in between, the Pens found the teabags the colonists once threw into the Boston Harbor and inserted them into the fans' mouths. It was great. Jarome Iginla faced the ire of the Bruins fans the entire game. He responded to the boos by scoring a huge goal midway through the third then showing his support for the city of Boston in the post-game.

The Pens have completed a season sweep of the Bruins, and they've also completed a season sweep of the 2, 3, and 4 seeds currently in the East. And then there's the Pens' record vs. the 8 teams jockeying for position for the other 7 spots in the Eastern playoffs: 23-4.

The Pens have clinched the top seed, so this upcoming week is all about getting healthy and finalizing plans and lineups for the first round of the playoffs. It will be fun watching the race for the eight seed in the East.
