SERIES RECAP: ROUND 2. A bump along the way.

Posted by TPB Staff on .

Ottawa's claim to fame coming into this series was that they were pesky. So are mosquitoes. The only difference between the two is one was willing to get blood.  All series, the Sens just didn't seem like a team willing to sacrifice to get anything. Their downfall was how badly outmatched they were against the Penguins.

A team will usually heap praise on their opponent during a series to play head games. Here's a couple quotes from the Sens following the 7-3 Pens win in Game Four:

“We're up against a monster here.” - Marc Methot

"Probably not," Alfredsson said. "[Pittsburgh's] depth and our play right now … it doesn't look too good." - Sens captain Daniel Alfredsson when asked if the Sens could beat the Penguins three times in a row

These weren't head games. These were professional hockey players knowing what they were up against. Here are some quotes from the Sens after the series:

"I hope they don't charge us for the clinic." - Sens coach Paul MacLean

"Probably not since back in the days when I played the video game." - Erik Karlsson when asked about the last time he's seen a team as dangerous as the Penguins.

The Pens are now halfway to the prize, and this next series against the Bruins will be a good one. Before that happens, though, we're gonna take one final look at this series against the Senators.

RECAP: GAME FIVE: Pesky No More. PENS ADVANCE.

Posted by TPB Staff on .

The Battle of Ottawa is won.
The War for the Eastern Conference is just beginning.

After spending the last few years searching for it high and low, the Penguins have definitely found their killer instinct. Whether or not Ottawa is even that good is a moot discussion. The Penguins played Game 5 like they had to. They needed to get up early; they did. They needed to get up big; they did.

They needed their goalie to make some saves.

He did.

And with that came the end of Ottawa Senators. We'll recap the entire series over the weekend, but Game 5 was a perfect microcosm: The Pens dominated, the Senators made it remotely interesting for a fraction of time, and then it was over.

That Saturday, May 25 in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Today is one of the great days in Penguins history. It is the day the Penguins won their first Cup. Just a special day to think about because it is one of our earliest memories as hockey fans. The entire journey is documented in the "One From The Heart" video. And this piece of it is perfectly timed:

22 years, you guys. Still goosebump city.

Go Pens

Neal's catching fire at the right time. These last two games have been scary for whoever the Pens play in the East Finals. Recaps will be staggered due to the holiday weekend, so drink up.

Playoff Gameday: Pittsburgh Penguins & Ottawa Senators - Round Two, Game Five

Ottawa Senators @ Pittsburgh Penguins
Penguins Lead Series 3-1

NBCSN, CBC, RDS - 7:30 pm/et

Consol Energy Center - Pittsburgh, PA

In recent years the Pittsburgh Penguins have had difficulty closing out a playoff series at home. Will things change today?

How will the Senators respond to being blown out on Wednesday? For that matter, how will the Penguins respond? The Ottawa Senators have nothing left to lose. Does that mean they'll give everything they have in hopes of coming back in this series? Or is Daniel Alfredsson right and the series is pretty much over?

Daniel Alfredsson says comments after Game 4 were taken out of context. Reporters reaction say otherwise.

Oh hey look Alfie said he his statements about "probably not coming coming back," were taken out of context. [ NESN ]

Alfredsson did say, however, that he wasn’t ready to give up on the team. He reiterated that Thursday, just a few hours after making the postgame comments. “There’s no denying we’re in tough,” Alfredsson said, according to NHL.com’s Arpon Basu via Twitter. “Was it taken out of context? Probably, but that’s fine. I can handle that.”

Ummm....watch this video around the 1:01 minute mark.

Check out the reporters face on the far left:

There is nothing better than a shocked canadian reporter. Great leadership by Alfie. Idiot.
