Here We Go Again

Posted by Rick on .

Today is September 12th.
Three months ago the Pittsburgh Penguins raised the Stanley Cup.
Now, three months to the day, the Pittsburgh Penguins are back at camp.

Tomorrow they take to the ice for the first time this season.

Soon skates will cut across that fresh, white surface.
Pucks will glide and checks will be thrown.
Shortly, they will be followed by the crowds.
The old building will once again fill with fans, cheering on their heroes.
As the season continues the crowds will grow.
The games will get more intense.
The hits will be harder, the skating will be faster, and the energy in the building will reach a fever pitch.

But today, there is just ice.

A new beginning.

So send pics, weird Youtubes, whatev.

Only because we had to be the only people watching the Colorado/Toledo game last night.

What a shirt.

Too bad this kid is going to die of it next week.

Pens tickets go on sale today. If you didn't know that, chances are you're screwed.

Storylines Heading Into Camp Bylsma

Posted by #test on .

It has been a nice long summer. The empty feeling of last years summer is gone like a beer can on a warm vacation day.

Did we miss hockey? Sure. Did we need a break? Yes. But the itch is slowly returning isn't it? A defense of the title looms.

The old adage is that "the cup changes everything."
We were at a party this summer where the Stanley Cup just happened to be at. We were going to get in line to get our pic with the cup, but one of us wanted to ride it out.

"The line will get shorter."

It never did. People showed up from everywhere. The rumor of the Stanley Cup being in attendance spread like bad acting in a Billy Zane movie. And before you knew it...

"It's gone."

We never saw the Cup, never had our pic beside it. But we learned how much the Stanley Cup means.

And now the quest begins.

Welcome to training camp Bylsma 2009.

Training camp preview today starts the season.

Anyway............

From reader CCM--

I was at work yesterday when I got a tip from one of my friends in another department that a Pittsburgh Penguin was going to be stopping by our office around 4:00pm.  They said they had not been told which Penguin would be coming, but said I should come over (the Penguin was coming to the adjacent building) around 3:45pm and bring something for them to sign.  Since I only have a small cubicle at work that I decorate sparingly, I didn't have much in terms of good signature material.  Luckily, I have been feverishly awaiting the Penguin's 2010 season, and have had the Pensblog Calendar up on my cubicle wall for the past several weeks.  I took it over and to my surprise, the Penguin who arrived to deliver my company's season tickets was none other than Head Coach Dan Bylsma.  The ticket deliver seemed to be a little bit of a production, as Dan had a camera man following him around along with other Penguin's staff, but Disco Dan seemed like a really cool guy.  Shook everyones' hand and was eager to sign autographs, take pictures, and chit chat.  When it got to be my turn, Dan noticed that I had the Pensblog calendar and his face lit up.  He said the guys love the Pensblog's photoshops and that they were hung up in the locker room during the Stanley Cup Final.  After he signed my calendar, he started to flip through it, and by blind luck, the first page he flipped to was the black and white silhouette of Pensblog Charlie's face with the simple text "Do it."  Dan paused for a moment, appearing confused, but then flipped through a few more pages and laughed at the "Free Candy" van in a manner that made it apparent that he was familiar with the term.  All in all, meeting Disco was a really cool experience, and was a perfect end for my Summer of Woooo.

The LA Times Does Not Enjoy You

Posted by #test on .

That is Andrew Malcolm. And he hates you.
Mr. Malcolm writes for the the LA Times. And today he went off about Pittsburgh, the Penguins, and the Stanley Cup.

The article is here. [LA TIMES]

What Malcolm is doing is going on some type of political rant, and it seems he is using the Penguins in it.

Here is Malcolm's profile:

Andrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions. That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000. A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.

So we gather that Malcolm is a conservative? And he hates liberals? Isn't that how it goes or something?

We couldn't care less about all that shit. What does bother us is we can't figure out who he looks like.

Malcolm is probably smart. He knows ripping Pittsburgh will get his failing papers website some hits. But much like his career the article is disappointing. It lacks a substance.

Which pretty much explains why he couldn't even win the Pulitzer Prize he was a finalist for.
P.s. He lost the prize to some dude with the last name of Stall.. just sayin.

After the jump a look at the article
