Talbot "SHHHH" T-Shirt Contest

Posted by Pensblog Staff on .

Let's try this again.
We're giving away four (4) Talbot "Shhh" T-shirts.

THE CONTEST:

1. Get yourself a Twitter account.

2. Guess who will score the next PP goal for the Pens.
In your Tweet, include the goal scorer, primary assist, and secondary assist.

3. Tiebreaker: Include period and minute-mark of goal.
Ex: Goal scored at 14:33 is the 14-minute mark.

4. Place #tpbpp in your Tweet.

EXAMPLE:

VERY IMPORTANT:

Follow the template above EXACTLY when putting in your goal scorer.
Because we will be searching the trend for "G: Crosby" for example.
(No need to put @TPBadam or @TPBderek in your Tweet)

*If you're new to Twitter and don't know what's going on,
just follow the directions laid out above.

After clicking "Update",
you will see the Tweet you just typed pop up on your shit.

Just click #tpbpp in that Tweet to see if your entry was submitted.

SUBMISSION RULES:

1) Time of your submission on Twitter DOES NOT matter.
Just get it in before the puck drops in Calgary tonight.
***ONE ENTRY PER PERSON***

2) Primary and Secondary assists are not necessary.
We'll see who picked the correct goal scorer and start whittling down from there.
So it won't hurt to put guesses for the assists in there.

3) Tiebreaker: People closest to the minute mark wins.
Example: Joke#1 guesses the 14-minute mark.
Joke#2 guesses the 15-minute mark.
Goal scored at 14:33. Joke #2 wins.
If the Pens score at 14:30, kill yourself.

4) Good luck trying to cheat.  Once the puck drops, we're screenshotting the Tweets.  We'll find the winner(s), then cross-reference the screenshots.  So don't think you're gonna be slick and do 20 entries then delete all but your best one when the Pens score.   So load up the ballot box if you want to be a dick.  You won't win.

The funniest thing is we made all these rules...
thinking the PP will actually score tonight.

Go Pens.

Kovalchuk to the Pens

Trade Goligoski.
Bench Malkin.
Fire Bylsma.

Are the Penguins playing great hockey right now?  No, they're not.
Is the power play struggling?  That's obvious.

But we can promise you something:
At some point in time, Evgeni Malkin will score a goal.
It may even come on the power play.

Everyone hitting the panic button right now needs to relax.

Just because you'd make a trade in NHL10, that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do in real life.
Ray Shero is paid to be a general manager of an NHL franchise.
He put together last year's Stanley Cup Champions.
He just might know what he's doing here.

It is so nauseating. Seems like every week we get to watch either some joke goalie (sans Broduer) or some joke player play out of their mind and help beat the Pens.

Last night was another push-your-grandma, make-short-talk-with-your-significant-other game of the season. If you're Ron Cook, you can actually kill both birds with one stone.

Guilliaummeiue Latendresse had unlimited points and helped the Wild beat the Pens.
Make it a point to watch Latendresse do nothing against whoever the Wild play next.

Get it?

But no matter how well Latendresse played, the Penguins again outshot an opponent,.
And they let 6 (six) powerplay chances go by the wayside.
It's just a sad state of affairs.

Worse yet, the Pens might be without Gonch for a little while after what he did to Clutterbuck.

Even worse, FSN is on trial for hockey fraud after hiding the footage of that Flyers goal the other night. [ Red Wings Korner ]

Continuing with that theme, there may be a crooked ref in the NHL ranks.
After the jump.

And then, on a personal note, we get word that we didn't make a top-ten list of hockey blogs. [ Buzz Manager ]
We didn't read that whole post because we have to shine up our Bloggers Championship Belt™ every 20 minutes.
Wonder why we didn't make the list.

So all of a sudden, this season has become like the ending of The Ususal Suspects. Good times.

Game two of the road trip.

The Pens lost 2-1 at home to the Wild earlier this season.

Former Penguin Petr Sykora will not be playing tonight.
This is the third game in a row that Sykora will be a healthy scratch.
His agent, Alla Walsh, isn't happy about it.
"The coach is treating Sykora with less respect than a rookie."

-- Allan Walsh on Twitter
Walsh was echoing comments originally made by Michael Russo of the Star Tribune.

Ron Cook Is Everything That Is Wrong With This Town

Posted by #test on .

Malkin should be beyond that. He is no kid. He's 23. This is his fourth NHL season. He is a scoring champion, a Stanley Cup champion and a Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoffs MVP. He shouldn't still need Gonchar to hold his hand through the tough times. It's enough to make you wonder what will happen to him if the Penguins don't do a new contract with Gonchar and allow him to leave as a free agent after the season.

Can you say Jaromir Jagr?

-Ron Cook, PG 1/11/10

If you think we aren't responding to something like this, YOU ARE nuts.

In one column, Ron Cook underscored everything that is wrong with this town. He creates a situation that does not need to be created.  Like so many in the Pittsburgh media, he makes nothing out of something and, in the meantime, starts the much-needed negative energy that sportswriters in this town need in order to survive.

What a disaster. What a shame.
What a mistake.

In his column titled "Sulking won't cure Malkin's Slump," he blisters Malkin.
Quite frankly, he embarrasses him.

See, believe it or not, people read Ron Cook.
And people actually think he knows what he is talking about.
This will fester.

If we have to kill someone over this, we are prepared.

Brooks Orpik Day-to-Day

Pittsburgh held an optional practice at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday. One player who did not participate was defenseman Brooks Orpik, who left the team’s 4-1 victory at Toronto on Saturday night with an undisclosed injury in the first period after playing only 2:57.

Big win.  No elaboration needed.

As for the Leafs, they have problems. That's putting it mildly. But Burke has at least one thing in common with Ray Shero: he has a plan and he sticks to it. Burke's tried to put his mark on this team, but has been largely handcapped by bad decisions and awful contracts handed out before his arrival.  And it probably doesn't help that Charlie is throwing pebbles at his son's window.

But at least for Burke, lots of contracts are expiring for the Leafs this off-season, so he'll have more room to work with.
Next year looks to be the make-or-break for Brian and his wet dreams of success.
We want Toronto to get back to the playoffs.
The ghosts of Garry Valk need to be exorcised.

And the Pens start the road trip 1-0. Huge.
Minnesota on Monday. Should be interesting.
