The Capitals could reach 60 points, but that would mean they stay as the 3 seed.

The Jets can't catch the Pens.

And that leaves the Devils. They can reach 59 points. The Pens earning 1 more point would get them to 59. The Pens hold the tiebreaker on the Devils, which is non-shootout wins (ROW). A Devils loss in any form tonight against the Sabres gives the Pens a playoff berth. The game is on NBCSN.

Nothing happened, James. Nothing happened at all. Del Zotto won't be facing any discipline for this elbow.

RECAP: Gin and Jussi. PENS WIN.

Posted by TPB Staff on .

The Pens and Rangers have played a carbon copy of this game late in the season for what seems like forever now. The game is tight-checking, hard-hitting, and there is bad blood all over the place.

Friday night fit the bill After two mild periods, the third period turned into a little bit of everything. While Henrik and MAF dueled, Douglas Murray killed Brian Boyle, Matt Cooke went after the Rangers bench, and Rick Nash actually did something that mattered. Just a great game.

In the end, Fleury was outrageously good and basically won the game by himself.

Looking at the standings. a month from today, the Pens and Rangers could be in the throes of a seven-game dance. If that happens, good gawd.

GIF: Marc-Andre Fleury was so good tonight he didn't even need his glove

Posted by TPB Staff on .

There was a collision in front of Fleury late in the second period. He somehow lost his glove. But that didn't faze him:

Almost wish a puck would have gotten through to see him make a save with his bare hand. But that also could have meant a broken hand, so we're glad it didn't happen.

QUICK CAP GIF: Fleury steals one. Pens win it in a shootout

Special performance by Marc-Andre Fleury tonight.

This game was a battle to the very end. And it leaves you wondering what a Pens/Rangers series could include.

Fleury bailed out his teammates time and again. Jussi Jokinen had a goal in regulation and the game-winner in the shootout. He won like 2,000 faceoffs, too.

Rick Nash still sucks.

Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 39 - New York Rangers

New York Rangers (18-15-3) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (28-10-0)

ROOT, NHLN-US, MSG PLUS, RDS - 7:00 pm/et

Consol Energy Center - Pittsburgh, PA

The Pittsburgh Penguins thought that they could just show up at MSG on Wednesday night and have the New York Rangers hand them a victory with a side of fries and a tasty beverage to wash it all down. Unfortunately, all the Rangers handed them was a plate of humiliating defeat pie.

Have the Penguins learned that their collective awesomeness and "OMG remember we had a 15-game winning streak" aren't enough to bring them easy victories or will Ryane Clowe poop in their faces again?

The New Double J, Jussi Jokinen, makes his Pittsburgh Penguins debut tonight. Read all about him.

With a Winnipeg loss Thursday night, the Pens need only to get to overtime Friday night to clinch a playoff berth. There's obviously bigger fish to fry, but we'll never forget the bad times.
