Seriously the best part of this game?
It was actually good.
After playing six games against the Flyers,
you get used to players taking cheap shots and running people.
AO took a couple runs.
He got one on Cooke that unfortunately changed the game.
Then he took a run at Crosby that failed.
But that's the game.
And it was an entertaining game; a breath of fresh air after the Flyers series.
This was actual hockey.
In the Flyers series, Marc-Andre Fleury made an unreal save late in Game Two.
The save kept the Pens in the hunt. They later tied it and won in OT.
Flyers fans hung their hats on that play, convincing themselves
that a couple of bounces could have turned the series on its head.
Fast-forward to Saturday afternoon.
The Pens had just tied it 2-2 on the weakest goal of the 2009 playoffs.
Then they get their 20th odd-man break of the game.
Varlamov makes the save of the 2009 playoffs.
Luck is involved whenever a desperation save like that is made.
Luck is not involved when you completely castrate a power play
that has three perennial All-Stars on it.
The Capitals did what they had to do in order to win this game.
The Penguins did what they had to do in order to lose this game.
Watching that save for the rest of this series
in the highlight reels before every game is going to be tough.
C'est la vie.
If yesterday's game was any indication, every game is going to be close.
From Mike Lange:
In their history, the Pens have lost the first game to the Caps 6 out of 7 times.
From your experience as a hockey fan:
You have to get a split on the road to start a series.
Monday Night: Raw is War
After a long week of hype, it begins.
At about 1:17pm, we'll all be jacked.
If you need a motivational speech now, you're crazy.
For the second series in a row, we're facing a team that is easy to hate.
All year we've heard how Ovechkin is "the best player in the world by far" and listened to Caps fans brag how they earned at least one point in every game against us this year.
The arrogance coming out of Washington has been growing all season.
In the words of China Jack, "Now is not the time to get cocky."
This is going to be a tough series, but one that we can really enjoy.
We have not read anything that indicates that any major lineup changes are going to occur.
The main issue for the Pens is going to be "Sykora or Satan."
Some last-second previews after the jump.
Does anyone remember the last time the Penguins played?
It was so long ago that the memories have turned into a blur:
It was so long ago that the memories have turned into a blur:
Max Talbot fighting, "Crosby Sucks" chants and Mike Richards' leadership.
There's still one more day before the Pens play again.
We've kept ourselves busy on Youtube.
This song probably plays on loop in the Capitals dressing room:
Texas Ted Leonsis has Twitter.
Will there be droves of Pens fans in Washington for Games 1 and 2?
The sound of Pens fans erupting after goals will be all anyone needs to know.
If someone is going to the game and they hand out shirts,
we have some interesting plans for it.
Hell, don't even worry about our plans.
Just pee on it and put it on YouTube.
After the jump...
-- A Penguin does NBC doggy-style.
-- Alex Ovechkin may not be 100%.
First time a number higher than 12 has been near a % sign with AO involved.
-- your mom
The Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Washington Capitals.
This is the series the entire NHL was been waiting for.
Sports writers have been going nuts, falling over themselves to come up with any sort of new Crosby VS. Ovechkin angle.
Bruce Boudreau, bless his tubby soul, was right when he said this was going to be a "circus."
Of course, that quote led to the creation of about 100 articles about how Crosby and Ovechkin will respond to the "circus."
The hype machine is already running at full capacity and the series hasn't even started yet.
Of course, that doesn't mean this isn't going to be a great series.
It's going to be a great series.
This could be one of the few things that actually deserves a ridiculous amount of hype.
These are two young, explosive, offensively-talented teams going up against one another.
When you add in the fact that a lot of the principle players don't really like one another, you end up with the groundwork for an incredibly exciting contest.
Yes, this is our Pens/Caps hype, coming one paragraph after our diatribe against the hype.
The Internet works in mysterious ways.
Is Ted behind this?
Oh, let the games begin.
Got this e-mail from someone claiming to be an anonymous source
inside the Capitals organization:
"High ups" in the Caps office are actually snagging up tix on Craig's List/Stub Hub so that fans from Pittsburgh can't get them. You can't make this up. Apparently, they also read different blogs (including this one) to learn just how many rival fans are coming and figure out how they can prevent it from happening.
Also, one thing to look out for: A LOT of the tix on Craig's List are actually fake (according to Caps front office).
If you've been on the Internet for more than a week,
you know what looks shady, and what doesn't.
After completing a search of Washington's Craiglist for tickets of Caps-Pens tickets,
we have found that in last 24 hours there has been over 70 listings for tickets.
In comparsion, searches in Pittsburgh reveal about 60 listings for tickets,
but that has been since Monday.
We went on to Craigslist to look at some of these listings.
So thank God we aren't playing Boston this round.

The Morning Show interview should be available sometime Wednesday
via podcast at WDVE.COM.
Or you can visit THEWDVE.COM.
We bought that domain for them so no one else in the Pittsburgh area could steal it.
Thanks to the entire DVE Morning Show for giving us
the chance to spread cybersquatting awareness to their audience.
We're done with this situation.
Time to move on to more pressing matters
like setting up a Pensblog Trolling Manifesto.
Any ideas on what guidelines there should be for Caps trolls,
leave them in the comments.
