NHL 10 is here.  Having to physically buy attribute points is gay.  We uncovered some of the modes and features that didn't make the cut this year.

Pensblog Brunch: Procedures

Wednesday is the day when you find out if that joke who was all about the Pens in June is even a Pens fan.  A casual "Hey, the Pens won last night" to the friend is the test.  You either got a "Kunitz, baby," or a "The season started already?"

That's when you apply the Million Dollar Dream on the friend.
And he's not a friend anymore.

After the jump, we job.
And there's national-anthem/game-pic procedures.

Good To Be Back. PENS WIN

Nothing was really the same.
No Jeff Jimmerson. No John Barbero. Mellon Arena not sold out.

But yet somehow the same theatrics live on.

Down 3-0 going into the third period the Pens staged a comeback.
It ended up 4-4 in at the end of regulation.

44 seconds into OT Kunitz buried a Bing pass.

5-4 win.

With all due respect to FSN. We could listen to Mike Lange call games via the radio all year if we had to.

Some notes on the game after the jump.

Mellon Arena

Gameday?  Unreal.

We've all been waiting for this.

There hasn't been this much anticipation for a Pens preseason game since we came out of the lockout.

Tonight Mellon Arena begins its final run.
The old girl is getting ready to do what she does best: House a hockey game.
There is a space in the rafters that will soon be filled with some new banners.

But no one can be thinking about that right now.
That was last season.

It was incredibly special, but if the Pens spend their time reminiscing about what it was like to raise the Cup over their heads instead of focusing on the upcoming season, there will be trouble.

The Summer of Woooooo is over.
The 2009 - 2010 NHL season is upon us.

Up first?
The Columbus Blue Jackets.

Morning Pensblog: Pens Have A Game In Like Eight Minutes

[Gallery here thanks to Jackie I.]

We're following training camp, but lets face it [Empty Netters] is where the coverage is.
The Pens offical people are doing a good job too. [PENS]

Almost surreal that there is a game tonight. No clue who is playing as far as the Pens roster.

From the sound of things there will be student rush tickets available.

There doesn't seem to be a feed for the game, either.
So email us if something breaks in that dept and Rick will post it in Gameday.
Rumor has it the game will at least be broadcast on the X.

NHL 10 is in stores.
EASHL teams will be honored sometime this week.

The History Of Hockey Video Games

The origins of the first hockey video game is the subject of much debate.
Some people want pong-esque games to count, some don't.
We don't.

We're also not sure why exactly we still play most of our old NHL video games.
Maybe it is because it is fun playing with old time players. Whatever the case, to us there is nothing better than playing old time or even current NHL videos games amongest friends or even by yourself.

NHL 09' brought alot of casual NHL video gamers back full circle. We can honestly say we played the game the entire year.

And on the eve of the release of NHL'10, which looks to be one of the greatest yet, we pay tribute to the games that paved the way.

There are like five million NHL video games, so clearly we didn't break down all of them. If you're mad because we didn't talk about NHL Hitz, cut yourself.

Morning Pensblog: Could TK Make The Jump?

Posted by #test on .

Great stuff from the Penguins.com training camp blog yesterday.[Pens.com]

The most interesting note was who is getting the first crack at the open spot on the second line with Malkin and Tenk.

"I think tenacity is the first thing," head coach Dan Bylsma said of Talbot and Kennedy's similarities. "Tyler Kennedy probably skates a little bit better. I'd say he has a little more finish. From the onset, if you can add some tenaciousness, add some grit on the puck, a forechecking and puck-pursuit presence to that line. That's what Max was doing for Fedotenko and Geno on that line. Kennedy is getting older, has more experience and should feel more comfortable playing with those guys. He's going to have some time in training camp, practices and exhibition games to see if that can blend into something that will work on the ice."

Hard to argue with Disco's explaination. Really looking forward to seeing some game action. Memory tells us that Kennedy really has never played on the top two lines. But we're the same people that swore that former Maple Leaf coach Pat Quinn lived in our neighborhood.

So whatev.

A good vid of camp battling after the jump:
