Marian Gaborik has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Steve Mason has been traded to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Keep in mind that the Blue Jackets will be in the Penguins division next year.

Somewhere Rick Nash is crying.

Jussi Jokinen is a Pittsburgh Penguin

Posted by Rick on .

Pending a trade call.

Via Seth at Empty Netters, Jokinen has won 168 out of 283 faceoffs (59.4 %) this season.

He has 6 goals and 5 assists in 33 games this season. He's currently signed for next season at $3 million, but apparently Carolina will be paying some of that.

EDIT: The trade is for a conditional sixth- or seventh-round pick.

EDIT 2: More info from Bob McKenzie: "If Jokinen plays 50 per cent of PIT 2013 playoff games AND PIT wins the CUP, CAR gets a 6th round pick from PIT... If Jokinen plays 25 per cent of PIT 2013 playoff games AND PIT goes to Cup final, CAR gets 7th round pick from PIT."

So.... if neither of those conditions are met, he was free?

Hype City 2013: NHL Trade Deadline Coverage

Posted by Rick on .

We fully expect it to be a quiet deadline day. Sure, TSN and Sportsnet will be running their usual all-day shows and we'll, of course, tune in, but outside of the Leafs possibly trading for a goaltender, there aren't many big storylines left.

Honestly, everything happens on Twitter now anyway. Even if you don't have a Twitter account, you can keep up with whatever happens by watching our "Hockey News" Twitter list. Basically everyone you need to follow on deadline day is in there.

If the Pens do anything, we'll post about it. We may also make posts throughout the day if we feel like it/are really bored.

We hope you'll join us for the approximately 300 hours of hype and speculation that is the NHL Trade Deadline.

RECAP: The Pen isn't mightier. PENS LOSE.

Posted by TPB Staff on .

The next time the Pens have a chance to go for their 16th win, it will be much, much more important.

The winning streak was gonna end. That was pretty much a given. The only question was how exactly it was gonna end. When Chicago's points streak ended, it went down in flames against Colorado. For anyone who still wants to have a streak boner, the Pens have won 14 straight games with Crosby in the lineup, and MAF still has a streak, so there's that.

And there's this:

Any immediate disappointment over the streak ending is instantly replaced with the realization of how awesome the final month of the season is going to be. While the Pens playoff spot is (basically) safely secure, the bottom of the East is nuts. And the Pens will have a ton of influence on how it shapes up. Out of their final 11 games, 9 of those are against teams in playoff contention: Rangers(2), Hurricanes(2), Habs(1), Bruins(1), Sabres(1), Senators(1), Devils(1).

The fun begins with two against the Rangers to close out this week.

But first the streak gets laid to rest.

A lot of variables added up, and the perfect storm hit CONSOL.

Two big things:

-Fleury was back in between the pipes. Great to see.
-Iginla got on the scoreboard.

MSG Wednesday night. Can't wait.

Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 37 - Buffalo Sabres

Posted by Rick on .

Buffalo Sabres (13-17-6) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (28-8-0)

ROOT, NBCSN, TSN2, RDS - 7:30 pm/et

Consol Energy Center - Pittsburgh, PA

The final game before the trade deadline. Apparently every Buffalo Sabres player is on the trading block.

On this day in Pittsburgh Penguins' History: April 2, 2008. We wrote this:

We all like Kennedy. He's a scrapper. But this isn't 2003-04. He hasn't found the net recently, and it's not even worth it to look his crap up. Kennedy doesn't have a presence on the ice other than, well, being present on the ice.

Fast forward to today and he's centering one of the team's top lines.
