This tweet accurately describes the game:
This game is simultaneously exciting and boring. I can't explain it.— Rick (@Rick_City) January 16, 2014
The Penguins had about five legit NHL forwards in this game. Some guys named Pierre Letourneau-Leblond and Nick Drazenovic played. But still, despite falling behind for most of the game, the Penguins won. Really not sure what this says about the Caps, but pretty sure it doesn't say much. Maatta got the game-winner late in the third. The Pens are now 20-3 at home.
3. Jussi Jokinen
Another solid performance by JJ. He had the third-period game-tying goal and an assist on Taylor Pyatt's first as a Penguin.
2. Matt Niskanen
Just going to go ahead and say it. Niskanen is probably a better overall player than Brooks Orpik. He had two assists and four shots that actually hit the net. All in 20 minutes. Book it.
1. Olli Maatta
Oh, so that's what a defenseman who just does his job the right way looks like? Another brilliant game from Maatta. He got the GWG and added an assist. Played 17 minutes. Not many mistakes, either.
