At the end of our first case study, we hoped ROOT Sports would be watching the Sabres and Pens on NBCSN. We didn't realize ROOT would be broadcasting the game, as well.
We really didn't want to watch the first period of this game again, but we had to know. We had to know which network won the cut-shot war.
Spoiler: It's who you think it is.

What we did
Same thing as the first time. We fired up our GameCenter accounts and compared the Penguins' ROOT Sports broadcast and the national broadcast on NBCSN. We again went with the first period of each game.
Much cleaner than the debacle in Dallas, but still so many needless cuts. The worst was when Tyler Myers got wrecked by Taylor Pyatt in the corner of the Sabres' zone. Not only did we get a cutshot for that, we got a cut shot during play of Tyler Myers making faces:
We didn't miss anything special, so, hey, whatever. Seems so strange to just leave the game for two seconds.
16 Cut shots
If a puck goes into the corner on an NBC broadcast, prepare yourself for a cut shot. All NBCSN did was just take out the neutral-zone cut shots. Not using cut shots gives you at least a B- in our grading system. Their broadcast wasn't great, with probably two or three really needless shots.
Thought this was interesting. This was one of the only neutral zone cut shots:
It is almost as if the producer anticipated this dump, so they took a chance. This is an acceptable cut shot in our opinion.
Compare that play with this play:
The Pens are in a rush. No one anticipated this mistake, so the whole thing looks messy.
The only similar situation where a cutshot was used by both was on the Pyatt hit on Myers. They both cut-shot it but showed a different angle. However, NBC did not show Myers crying on the bench.
If that is as good as ROOT can do, we'd probably take it. The shots they had were tolerable, but we still don't understand the process behind it. The guy running the show is a heralded ex-HNIC guy. What happened to him? Why has he become this? We'll need to do a whole game soon, but there's no way in Hell we're rewatching this game.
