Pittsburgh Penguins (11-5-0) @ St. Louis Blues (10-2-2)
Root Sports, FS-MW - 8:00 pm/et
Scottrade Center - St. Louis, MO
The Western Conference is essentially a million times better than the East right now and the Central Division makes the Metropolitan Division look even worse garbage than it looks on its own.
The Penguins and the Blues have the same number of points in the standings but, while the Pens have a four-point Metropolitan Division lead, the Blues are third in the Central. Basically, if the Pens were in the Central, they'd be battling the Blues for a playoff spot instead of nearly running away with the first overall seed.
It will be interesting to see how the Pens respond after putting in a terrible overall game against the New York Rangers on Wednesday. It looks like Beau Bennett might be back, which is nice.
Did you know that Alexander Steen of the Blues currently leads the league in goals? That surprised us for some reason.
STATS, INFO & NOTES:
Penguins: Sidney Crosby (8G, 15A: 23P)
Blues: Alexander Steen (14G, 6A: 20P)
Penguins: Marc-Andre Fleury (10-3-0, 2.07 GAA, .920 Sv%)
Blues: Jaroslav Halak (8-2-1, 2.30 GAA, .911 Sv%)
Penguins: Lost to New York Rangers 5-1.
Blues: Defeated Calgary Flames 3-2.
Alexander Steen. Enough said. He leads the NHL in goals and was named the league's first star of the month.
What Happened Last Time: January 21, 2012 - Pens won 3-2 (SO). [Our Recap]
How much did you hate the Blues by the end of the first period even? That means they're good. That means anyone who plays them in the playoffs is going to have some issues. Give that team a player of Malkin's talent, and they'd probably be Stanley Cup favorites.
Penguins Player(s) to Watch: Evgeni Malkin, because soon, right?.
Blues Player(s) to Watch: Jaroslav Halak, because we're still kind of scared of him due to the 2010 playoffs.
