In June, someone from another fanbase, or Pittsburgh's 93.7 The Fan, will question whether or not Sidney Crosby is that great. And that's because they a) Don't understand hockey, and b) They didn't watch Game 38 of the season.
Again, the Penguins have one basic NHL line. The rest is patchwork. Crosby putting up three points is impressive enough, but his overall game is what stuck out in this one. He was relentless in both ends of the ice against the Flames. Complete leadership package. There really isn't a ton more to even say.
As for the Penguins as a whole, this was an interesting stat:
#Pens went 15-0 from games 22-36 last season. From games 22-36 this season, 12-2-1. Meaningful stuff.— James A. Conley (@Slew_James) December 20, 2013
The Pens are rolling. They lead the Metro by 13 points, have won seven straight, and they haven't lost at home in 10 games. They are one point off the NHL's best record. And this is all with a new defense and a ton of AHL forwards.
What a strange thing to wear to the game.
Fleury good when he had to be
This wasn't Fleury's best game, but he made several saves at the begining of the game and at the end to get the two points. The Pens D had some minor issues in this game, and give credit to the Flames; they cashed in on some of the mistakes. But for the most part, Fleury was strong. The Flames came on late and ran over Fleury at one point. He was pissed:
Harry Z scored
If he doesn't act like an asshole and get penalties, Harry Zolinjdnkdkmsdkmdkmlkdmlek could actually be a serviceable NHL player. He scored his first as a Penguin right after Pascal Dupuis made it 1-0.
That made it 2-0, and the Flames were stunned.
Mike Cammalleri is one of the ultimate villains against the Penguins. He scored again. Thank God he is in the West.
Crosby's goal changes the game
The Flames stuck around all afternoon. And with the score 2-1, Crosby took off:
Don't care who is in net, that is nasty. That goal made it 3-1 and woke up the Pens.
Chris Connor, yikes
Penguins Conner on ice for 13 5v5 faceoffs, none in O zone. Finished with 15% CF%. http://t.co/0dQCYpM48L— Extra Skater (@ExtraSkater) December 22, 2013
Kobasew, Conner, Vitale all getting golden chances to perform, and they aren't taking advantage of it. Thought Zach Sill was okay. Still really hard to believe the Pens are winning with this lineup.
